Costs

Wildlife removal cost 2026

Wildlife removal plus exclusion for a squirrel, raccoon, or bat job typically costs $700–$2,500 in the US. Search results that quote $200–$600 are often trap-and-leave, which another animal uses next month.

Do not close the last hole while young are still inside. Attic cleanup is a third invoice. Typical US ranges, not a bid.

Removal plus exclusion often lands in the high hundreds to low thousands. Full attic remediation after contamination is a different, much larger project.

Many species are regulated. Bat exclusion in particular has seasonal legal limits in much of the US. This is rarely a DIY vertical.

Key takeaways

  • Ask who is still in the nest before you compare two bids. A mother with young is a wait, not a same-day seal.
  • Trap-only is the cheap line. The durable line is the hole, in metal, after they are out.
  • Bats are a one-way exclusion. Do not trap them. Do not seal in late spring and summer until someone confirms the young can fly.
  • A bat in a room you slept in is a public-health call first, then a cost job.
  • Full attic cleanup after droppings in insulation is not the removal price. It is a separate paper.

Mice and rats are a different paper: rodent exclusion cost. This page is squirrels, raccoons, bats, and similar attic or chimney jobs.

USDA APHIS treats exclusion as a barrier: mesh, netting, caps, screens. Catching one animal and leaving the soffit open is not that job.

Who is still in the nest

What you haveTypical next stepWhy the bid moves
One animal, you can see the hole, no youngTrap or one-way door, then sealShort job if access is easy
Mother with young in the attic or chimneyWait until they can leave, or remove the young with herSame-day foam in the hole strands them in the void
Bats using a vent or fascia gapOne-way device, then seal after they are outTrapping is the wrong method. Maternity season can pause the seal
Dead animal in a wallLocate, cut, remove, sanitizeSmell has no appointment window
Droppings through blown-in insulationRemoval and exclusion first, then cleanupThat cleanup is not the $700 line

A $350 “raccoon removal” that does not name the kits, the hole, or a return date is a catch. Another raccoon will use the same soffit.

Catch, close, clean

Line on the paperTypical US rangeDone when
Squirrel removal plus exclusion$700–$1,800They are out. The gap is metal, not foam
Raccoon removal plus exclusion$800–$2,500Same, plus chimney cap or torn soffit if that was the door
Bat exclusion$500–$2,500Colony out through a one-way. Every gap they used is closed
Full attic remediation$8,000–$25,000Insulation pulled and replaced after heavy contamination

Those bands are planning ranges, not a bid. Height, a steep roof, a chimney, and a second entry all move the number. Get the species, the method, and the openings in writing. Run that paper through the quote checker.

Bats are a one-way job

CDC: a bat can use a gap about 1/4 inch. If you are sealing between May and August, do not trap young inside. Watch the dusk exit, use a one-way, then close the hole when you are sure they are out.

FWS: exclusions should not run during maternity season, typically May 15 to August 15. Local rules may also protect bats that already occupy a building. Requirements vary. Verify with the state wildlife agency before anyone foams a gable vent in June.

If a bat was in a room someone slept in, that is a public-health call first. CDC: do not release the bat until you talk to the health department. This page does not replace that call.

Stay away from a downed bat. Do not handle it.
